What Is The Best Way To Play Your Favorite Guitar Songs

A lot of people want to play guitar because they think it would be fun to learn to play the songs of their favorite artists. There are many ways to learn guitar nowadays, but what is the most best way to get started so you can start playing as soon as possible?

I too had this same motivation when I started to play guitar about five years ago.  Back then, I wanted to be able to play some guitar songs and impress all of my friends.  So I asked around and found a decent guitar teacher who could give me private guitar lessons.  This was okay at first, and I learned the guitar basics in my first month.  However, private lessons are quite expensive and after the first several classes I decided I wouldn’t be able to afford it anymore.  Plus, it was such a hassle to keep my appointments twice a week and go over to his house for lessons.

I still wanted to play guitar though, so I decided to start teaching myself on my own, using the best guitar courses I found on the internet. After just a little bit of practice, I was able to play the basic guitar chords and I could also start to recognize them by ear.  Most popular songs are made up of the same 3 or 4 basic chords that you learn from the beginning.  Once, I learned these basics, soon I was able to play my favorite songs just by listening to them first.

It is amazing to see how many guitar playing tutorials there are on the internet these days.  The fantastic thing is that many of these great guitar playing sites are completely free.  You can find how to videos that show you all the important guitar playing techniques right on Youtube.  If you ever have any problems, then just seek out one of the many guitar forums and you will find several experts able to answer your questions.  Once you’ve taken the time to find these resources, learning to play your favorite guitar songs easy and convenient.  Playing the guitar is such a fun hobby, and it never gets old impressing your your friends and family with your guitar playing ability.

How To Avoid Common Guitar Mistakes

When I first started learning the guitar my father taught me. However as my old man would always tell, “you can’t cut corners, you have to practice!”. Well of course to my horror he was right.

Eventually I started to practice and became a confident guitar player in time. However I remember back when I started, some of the errors and bad habits that I collected that were rather tough to break. So for all you new guitar players out there you may want to read this article and avoid the mistake that I made.

The first thing I did wrong was not tapping my foot while I played. Tapping your foot allows you to keep time and is very important if you want to feel the rhythm. When I realized this, or should I say it was pointed out to me, I tried to just start tapping along, and found it really hard to keep playing. Eventually I got it, but it would have been a lot easier if I had done this from the beginning.

Another mistake that I regretted was not learning to play with a pick. I use to just strum with my hand, and use my middle finger and thumb together like a pick. Yes I could still produce a nice sound but it was no where near as clean as a pick sound. So when I stated to play with a pick I once again found it really tough and it took me months to correct this error.

Mistake number three was not learning to play the guitar while standing up using a strap. I always played sitting on the side of my bed or a chair and I remember trying to play at a friends house once standing up and I could barely do it. My hand and arm just weren’t used to it and once again this took months to correct.

Finally another thing I would have done differently if I were learning is to have taken lessons a lot sooner and also taken them online. Now in my own defense they didn’t have the quality of the online guitar course that there are today, however if I did have that opportunity I would definitely had taken it.

The great thing about learning the guitar online is that you can take guitar lessons in Los Angeles, or anywhere in the world, and the best part is that you only pay once. Plus you can take your lessons when and where you like. Had I had this opportunity I know I would have learned guitar a lot faster.
