Play guitar like a guitar hero
I had lots of desire and no skills when I first set out to learn to play the guitar. The Beatles, Clapton and Segovia were the people that inspired me most.
The guitar seemed to me to be a wonderful instrument and I just had to learn how to play.My days and nights were filled with learning guitar.
My friends and records were my first teachers. At that time online learning did not exist at all. Today you have so much information available to you it is incredible . When there is an abundance of advice available to you it is easy to get lost in too much detail and not stay on course as you learn guitar. It can be difficult but you need a course of action, a plan, a system of learning to play guitar.
Nothing against teachers, but there is no need at first to pay big money to have someone show you something simple like how to string a guitar or how to strum with a pick. If you want to study at 2 a.m. with your online course you can do that. Not too many teachers would appreciate a call at 2 in the morning. State of the art videos are included and you can really see the teachers hands and picking motion.
When I started to learn guitar I had a big desire and I learned from many different sources. You may not be able to learn all by yourself so easily. Happily there is another alternative these days and you are lucky to be able to take advantage of it. I know you will try to learn a lot on your own. When you do I recommend folk guitar books as they have all of the basic strums with very familiar songs.
A teacher can be a critical component of your learning in any genre, be it singing or learning to play piano or guitar. The teacher can unfortunately be not suited to your temperament or aptitude also. If your teacher is classically trained he may not know much about rock and roll. You can burn through a lot of money going to different teachers, so it can be a blessing to have an online program as you learn the basics and beyond.
At first learning how to play guitar is bewildering . The piano is easy to visualize unlike the guitar with its varying chord positions so this makes the guitar a bit harder to comprehend at first. While just starting, all of this in combination with left and right hand techniques as well as tab and different tunings and it can very quickly become overwhelming.
I would say you are very luck indeed to live today and I hope you find your way in your quest to learn guitar.
